When I was an adolescent, my lady friends, and I was frequently attempting to eat less. Our motto was: A minute on the lips is a lifetime on the hips. It implied that a demonstration that took only a moment could stay with you until the end of time. I like to apply this expression to our approach to God. A petition to God can be just a question that is only seconds out of our day, yet its impact on our lives, on our conduct, on our souls, on our recognitions, can be lasting. A minute on our lips is a lifetime on our souls. An essential supplication to God can transform us; can lead us on the way to improving ourselves and our reality.
So beg. Appeal to God for peace, petition God for mending, petition God for advances in science, appeal to God for the quality to destroy destitution and illness, petition God for the mettle to overcome foul play, petition God for resolution, appeal to God for others, appeal to God for yourself. Petition God with everything that is in you and soul, and then get together your strength to meet the difficulties that lie ahead.
Requests to God change us. It stirs us. Our eyes start to notice magnificence where we never saw it before. Our hearts begin to feel empathy we never knew we had. Our needs move. As we converse with God, we get the consolation to experience the potential inside us. Before long we begin to see past ourselves into the world that is sitting tight for our assistance.
I trust God is tuning in. Furthermore, I believe God answers us. God's solution for our requests to God may be altogether different from the response we were looking for. God's answer may come as the quality to battle on. It may come as the bravery to confront what we have been dreading. God's answer may be the capacity to acknowledge what we have been denying. Alternately it may show up as trust despite our gloom. God is neither inaccessible nor hard of hearing. We are not the only one. God is available in our lives. When we quit bartering with God and begin opening up our souls to God, our petitions to God all of a sudden begin working.
